Skills

Games Development

My studies have focused around using the Unity 3D engine and the XNA framework, within Visual Studio, to make games. Using this knowledge I have published my first 3D game, made in Unity, released on the Kongregate website..

Programming

I started programming in high school, this was using C++, but since entering university in 2013 I have predominantly focused on C#. So far, a few months into my second academic year of study, I have begun developing with Java, SQL (for databases) and PHP languages.

Version Control

I have been applying an agile approach to project development, I have been using various version control programs, GitHub (currently hosting this website), BitBucket along with SourceTree for project version control and also Trello to organise both group and individual work.

Graphic Design

During my free time over the summer period, I focused on improving skills that can complement my work at University. I have been practicing drawing vector graphics in Inkscape along with gaining extra experience with 3D modelling using Blender. Recently I have explored creating textures and using different types of materials in Unity.

Website Development

I have a working knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript, alongside a strong understanding of responsive web design and development, including accessibility and usability features. Over summer I have learned how to use the Bootstrap framework to further improve my development process..

Problem solving

The majority of my modules are focused around programming and algorithms, which has helped me improve my problem solving ability. This is a skill which is constantly developing as I experience new challenges. These challenges are what drive me to become a better programmer and developer.

Despite being Health and Safety Officer for Games Development Society I have been pro-active and helped with organising workshops, committee meetings, which go beyond my duties for the society.

  • 2011-2013

    Voluntary work at POLITES

For two years I have been helping children from disadvantaged families with their education, which included help with homework and test preparation.

  • January 2012

I have helped an ice skating instructor with organising games and activities for children who have been learning figure ice skating.

About me

Kate Paulinne

Katarzyna Paulina Uzar

Currently I am second year student at Plymouth University, studying Computing & Games Development. I am looking for placement opportunities for the next year, 2015 – 2016, to gain hands on experience in the work place. I've studied programming languages since I was in High School and have discovered that I like encountering new problems that challenge me, and force me to go beyond my conform zone. Doing this I have found that I consider it the most effective way of learning. My experience at University has shown that I can work as an individual, with self-moderated goals and deadlines, alongside working effectively alongside team members as both a leader and a member.
